Minimal Level Obsidian Armor - Guild Wars Forums

Hey guys, I've been getting a bit bored of GW lately, so I decided late last night that I was going to attempt something that I've always been interested in doing. I'm curious as to the lowest possible level that one could obtain Obsidian Armor at.

So I suppose these are the questions that I'm looking to have answered.

Can FoW be entered prior to Level 20?

What campaign would be best to start from?
(It seems to me that starting in Proph, running through Pre, then getting a run from Ascalon, to the Desert, through the Desert Missions, then do the Augury Rock Mission would be best, but I'm not sure if that'll work, opinions?)

Any comments are greatly welcomed. Thanks in advance for any help. Once this is all cleared up, I'll be creating my character and starting. (It'll be a Mesmer for anyone who's interested.)

You just need to ascend to get into fow/uw. Lowest level is 8 after you complete the quests and stuff for fow. You can enter FoW at like lvl 4 if you get ran to the ascension missions.

Desert is the way to get low levels into fow. Either starting a proph char or getting a NF char a ferry to the docks then to LA then to desert etc.

PS. If you start a proph char I think the mes quests gives the least amount of exp. If you work it right you can get lvl 7 and around 97%.

There are somewhere in this forum screenshots of people that got obsidian at level 3 if i remember correctly, maybe you can find them out with a little research.

Hmm, I forgot about the ability to ascend in campaigns even if you didn't start in them. I'd love to make my char in NF > Proph.

So, Create char, ferry to LA, Run to Desert, Run through missions, ascension (Augury), FoW?

One thing to remember is that Augury Rock will give you 51,000 XP (52k if you complete the bonus). You need 55,000 XP to get your char to lvl 12 (according to wiki), so proph's dessert, while the quickest, might not be the best method to use if your trying to keep your lvl down.

That was with an exploit. You can get INTO FoW at lvl 2-4 but you need to accept some of the quests to talk to the forgemaster which are 10k exp each.

Very good point. I hadn't thought about that. I'm at a stand-still for now then. How to get the lowest exp possible...

Travel to Guild Hall. Party with someone. Then the party leader leaves GH teleporting everyone to that outpost. So you could get to Nahpui Quarter at level 1.
But doesn't work anymore.

I think now is only possible at level 10.
NF char, skip tutorial, ask a friend to start the mission for you, let 2 sunspear die. then you should be in Kamadan with less than 300 xp
Ferry to KC; primary quests and Vizunah Square + Nahpui Quarter with Standard reward =11k
30k from FoW quests

Less than 42k xp if everything is done well

maybe with a proph char and NF ascension you can get FoW armor at lvl 9

I have several friends who have gotten fow at level 8, and i myself have a level 4 ascended ready to get it who will be level 10(planned so i can go eotn for chaos gloves:P) The way to do it is:
Create character in proph,
run straight to LA
ferry to KC
join someone also foreign doing their ascension quests and group with them (im not sure whether you are forced to take reward or not) and continue untill you are in Naphui
For naphui camp at the start for ~30mins to get minimum reward
Hey Presto! level 2/3 ascended depending on if you gained exp from kills
Go to fow and have them get out of your compass before they kill to avoid exp, get them to clear to forge, clear and do quests, accept 2 rewards and buy your fow armour at level 8

edit* i spoke to Haze (the [CASH] guy in kamadan) a while ago and this is the tactic he used. To Get chaos gloves by level 11 or 13 i think which he has done, is by leeching DD off of a group, then leeching deldrimor rep in snowman lair by taking the blessing then standing at start till R5, im not sure if you can still leech DD, though.
The other method (now nerfed) was using a bug in augery rock, where one would kill doppelganger and die at the same time, this stopped them getting the 50k and still ascended them, this method doesnt work now, but the other i mentioned still does.

Thank you Slaphead! Question though. Do you suppose it's necessary for me to start in Proph? Or could I create the char in NF, then just get a Ferry to KC? Also, for the "joining up with a group doing Ascension", do I need to have the quest (Closer to the stars, in this case), or can I just be there when they accept? I think I'm just a bit confused on how to Ascend in Factions on a foreign character.

Also, I think it is still possible to leech DD, you just can;t complete ATFH once you get there unless you've completed everything else. So theoretically, if you leeched the Deld points, you could get Chaos at a low level I suppose.

I got my FoW with lvl 8. The lowest lvl I have seen is 7.
This is how I did it:
Make a NF char. Get trough 1st Mish let 2 spears die. Then get ferried to KC an LA, do not accept quest rewards. In KC get run through quests that bring you toNaphui. This involves doing Vinuzha Squar. Do it in over 30mins to just get basic reward. Also only accept the quest rewards u have 2 to advance in th story (do not accept the rewards for the quest and closer to the stars, as you can do Vinzuha and Naphui without getting the quest rewards.)
In Naphui agian only do the mish in over 30mins for minimal exp reward.
Once you finished Naphui, you are now acended, get run TOA and go down to FoW and get armor.

Hmm, so from KC I'll need to pick up a quest (if you have names, that would be great, if not, I can get it figured out), follow it to Naphui, don't accept reward, but do mission (standard). get follow up quest, do it, dont accept, complete Vizunah?

50k if you do bonus, its like 1k exp if you don't. you mixed them.

no, you get 50k xp for the first time completion of augury rock, assuming your character has not ascended in other campaigns, regardless of bonus.

Yeah, it seems like Augury Rock is going to be too high yielding in experience to merit doing it for Ascension. I think I'll try to start from NF > Ferry KC / LA > Ascend in Factions. I just need to work out the plan completely with quest names and which quest rewards I can/cant accept.

You can get into FoW at very low levels. I had Obsidian Armor by level 8 (would have been level 7 but I accepted 1 too many quests and it pushed me to level 8 -____-).

So here's where I stand right now.
My Mesmer is created, (I Haz Hexes if you want to add me)
He's completed the first missions in NF.
Has Kamadan, LA, KC, and ToA.
Level 1 with 275 exp.

I need to figure out my next step. Mainly, which quest to grab, or which quest I need to be in a group with. Insight?
